The Structure of the Center

As one of its support services for researchers and students with young children, the Kyoto University Gender Equality Promotion Center provides a day care service for infants on public nursery school waiting lists.
Please note that the Day Care Room service is only available to Kyoto University students and researchers. The care service is commissioned to private company, and the university covers a portion of the cost of the service.
Those who wish to use the Day Care Room should apply to the Kyoto University Gender Equality Promotion Center after thoroughly reading the “Information for Applicants” below.

Overview of the Day Care Room Service

Persons Eligible to Use the Day Care Room Students and researchers at Kyoto University (including recipients of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Research Fellowship for Young Scientists).

Please Note:
①Children of newly-enrolled students, newly-appointed researchers, and students and researchers who are unable to apply for April admission to Public Nursery School due for unavoidable circumstances shall be given priority admission to the day care room.
②Children of students and researchers other than those described in ①, above, will be only admitted if there is a vacancy. In such cases, day care will be provided until the end of the month prior to that in which the child turns 15 months old.

Children Eligible for Admission to the Day Care Room Healthy infants aged from 9 weeks to younger than 15 months* are eligible for admission.
*(children can be admitted until the end of the month prior to that in which the child turns 15 months old)

The maximum number of children that can will be admitted to the Day Care Room is as follows:
April–May: 3 children
June–August: 6 children
September–March: 18 children

Days of Operation Monday–Friday (Except national holidays, the university’s foundation day (June 18), administrative staff summer and winter holidays, and other days on which closure is deemed necessary by the center’s director)
Hours of Operation 9:00–18:00
An “out-of-hours” nursery service can be provided between 8:00 and 9:00 a.m. and 18:00 and 20:00 p.m. (additional fees required).

If a storm or other emergency warning is issued in Kyoto City before 8:00 a.m., parents are requested not to bring their children to the Day Care Room. If a storm or other emergency warning is issued later in the day, during the day-care period, parents should collect their children from the Day Care Room as soon as possible.

1)Parents using the Day Care Room for less than five days per week must specify the days of use in advance.
2)Fees shall be charged on a monthly basis. If a user begins or ceases using the Day Care Room in the middle of a month, the fees for that month will be calculated by multiplying the number of days use by the following daily rate: Regular: 2,500 yen / Student: 2,000 yen (tax included).
3)Out-of-hours nursery fees per 30 minutes per child: Regular: 1,000 yen / Student: 800 yen (tax included)
Please Note:
①Applications for out-of-hours nursery service must be made by 16:00 one business day prior to the intended date of use. Applications made any later will not be accepted.
② If a parent collects their child after 18:00 without applying for the out-of-hours nursery service in advance, they shall be charged a special out-of-hours nursery fee of 1500 yen per 30 minutes per child (tax included, no student discount applicable).
4)Parents must supply their child’s diapers, wipes, baby formula, snacks, meals, etc. These items are not included in the fees.
5) If the service is used for two or more children from the same family, a 20% discount will be applied to the fees for each child.

How to Apply for the Day Care Room To apply to use the Day Care Room, please complete the Advance Registration Form and the Application Form, and send them both to the Center. (Those who have already submitted an Advance Registration Form only need to send the Application Form.)

Note: a copy of the Notice of Disapproval issued by your district’s Welfare Office must also be submitted prior to the scheduled admission date.
